What's New?

New brands
Squidfire: This is a new graphic T-shirt line from the east coast. Most of the shirts I selected have aquatic themes with octopi, seahorses or other critters of the deep. All shirts are hand pressed so no two look exactly the same. Jean-Baptiste from Squidfire found out about Blackbird from one of our most loyal customers while visiting Seattle. THANKS DUSTIN!!! We are the only store in Seattle carrying this line.

One True Saxon: A classic yet youthful higher end sportswear line from the UK. It reminds me of clothes you see Mike Skinner from The Streets wearing. Try on a hooded tweed jacket, tweed pants, Japanese denim jeans, 100% merino wool sweaters (really nice), wacky British themed graphic t-shirts and sweatshirts, military influenced polos and more. This line fits more generously than most items at Blackbird. This means that if you have bigger shoulders, longer arms or are generally larger than the average fella then try OTS. This is a great line for the classic guy who wants to update his wardrobe but not look silly doing so.

New items
Coal: It's hat season again and I've brought back your favorite beanies, caps and scarves from Coal. This year we're carrying a broader selection that even includes some one of a kind pieces from the Coal archives.

Did you know that Coal is a Seattle company that is based just across the water from us near Fisherman's Terminal? And, almost the entire crew lives in Ballard. That's what makes us such great pals with Brad, Kami, Logan, Bruce and Bob. Cool hats and cool people.

If we are ever out of a color, we can always special order it and have it to you the next business day.

Modern Amusement by Baumvision: We've sold out so many times and now they are back. We have every style and every color of the 80's retro inspired acrylic framed sunglasses. Since there are five styles, they'll fit any face and they come in 4 colors: black, dark brown, green and ivory for $120.

Lady-Friend(s)

(If you do not know any women, skip this post)

Arm Candy, a brilliant handbag boutique, (women's handbags) is opening it's doors this weekend in Ballard. The shop is only three doors down from Blackbird in the Sunset Hotel building. Opening day is Saturday, October 28th (not sure what time). I am thrilled to have such an original business next to mine!

Shoppers will find a tiny sliver of a shop with super high ceilings remenicent of many European boutiques. The decor is modern with white walls, a comedic graphic timeline of handbag history blazes across the main wall and more original graphics all around. The handbags are from all over the globe and are nothing like what you find anywhere else in Seattle. Plus Kacy (the owner) is a kind and fun person. Who could ask for anything more?

If you have a lady friend that appreciates cool purses, tell her about Arm Candy. And if you are in Ballard this weekend, possibly shopping at Blackbird, send your gal(s) over to Arm Candy while you shop for a new sweater or play a little Galaga.
