We're crazy about our new Cardboard Robot tees!!!
Their idea is a "gathering of misfits, dorks, & geeks - rejecting the age of American ideals, and all that is deemed "safe", and paving the way for an individualistic army of ones turned free thinkers, artists, musicians, athletes, intellects, and rejects." They call you to "join" them!
Check them out on MySpace if that's your thing.
The *PANIC* shirt is an automatic friend maker $33
The *Clutch* (left) and *Tracers Rounds* (right) $33 each

Hello!
It's time to upgrade Blackbird's method of sending you email updates. Our old system didn't always work and was terribly accident prone. The new system will allow you to easily opt out when you are ready and reliably receive all updates.
Just follow the link in the email you receive and you will be back on this list.
Thanks for helping out,
-Nicole

Now showing at Blackbird: Ruby & Willie by Photographer Bootsy Holler

"During a trip to spend Christmas with my family in December of 2001, I shot a few photographs in the living room of the house where my beloved Grandfather Willie lived. Since my Grandmother's death in 1978, the home they had shared remained virtually unchanged. When I got back to Seattle and developed the film, I was immmediately struck by the haunting, strangely beautiful quality of this environment in stasis. I knew I had to return to document this fragile world that had not been touched in 25 years. I shared with my mother my desire to photograph the whole house and that I would soon be home, but before I could make the trip Willie sadly fell ill. Willie was placed in an assisted-living facility and my race to preserve the house on film becam even more urgent. "
The 10" x 16" photos are mounted on wooden box frames.
$350 each
$600 for two

As of April 1st, Jack Spade has increased the prices of it's popular Greene St. Nylon Canvas bags. Fortunately for you, the bags we have in stock are still at the old prices. Even the new Kelly Green and Candy Apple Red. Get 'em while they're cheap!
10" Vertical Messenger $80
Vertical Messenger $95
Day Bag $90
Field Bag $100
Flat Messenger Bag $120
Tech Field Bag $165 (laptop)
"We are inspired by the funtionality and detail found in the bags men and women use in their vocations: potographers and masons, land surveyers and achitects, carpenters and writers. We have studied how people carry things (and what they carry) and developed a line of bags that serve a function. Jack Spade exists to provide an alternative to bags that are either poorly conceived or overly fashioned. We employ materials that age well, feel right, work simply and retain a sense of style." --From the tag on a Jack Spade bag

TRETORN
"Founded by Henry Dunker at the end of the 19th century, Tretorn was an innovator in footwear from the moment it was launched. Having built up a reputation for dependability and discreet luxury with its iconic rubber boots, Tretorn was also the first company to launch the pressureless tennis ball. The company's association with life on and off court rapidly created something of a cult following surrounding the brand, a status which was firmly secured when Wimbledon winners took to the grass in Tretorn in the 1970s. Inspired by the high profile and success of the brand, Tretorn's canvas and leather Nylites were the only shoe in which to be seen wearing on North American campuses throughout the 1980s. Lean and understated, Tretorn's simple sneaker was the first luxury sports shoe on the market." - from the Tretorn site
We have the Nylights coming in white on white canvas and some leather perforated styles too.

Over the past few weeks, we've received many comments from our customers saying "Blackbird has the best denim selection in Seattle". Now there is no way this could or should be confirmed but "thank you for the compliment".
What we can confirm is that Blackbird has the best selection of denim it's ever had and here is why.
>Prices start at $80 for designer styles
>We are constantly receiving refills on our missing sizes and have nearly every size in stock (28, 29, 30, 31, 32, 33, 34, 35(only APC), 36 and 38)
>If you have an odd body type or non-standard shape, we have a jean for you. e.g. We can help balance out your big thighs, skinny legs, big butt, little butt, wide hips, long gangly legs, big calves, big or small man parts or whatever issue you may think you have.
>Our styles span from trendy to classic.
>We have so many washes to fit your style like: raw, rinsed, washed, lightly distressed, wrinkled, light stone wash, heavily distressed, inky, dirty, clean, dressy, worn, torn, patched, dry, resin baked, waxed, and the list goes on...
>We have colored denim like red, black, grey and more on it's way.
>Most customers buy at least two pair at a time.
>We help you find the BEST pair of jeans with the least amount of effort on your part.
>We special order. e.g. If you like the cut we can get you other washes.
>If you spend over $200 on denim at Blackbird, we give you a free designer tee shirt.
Here is a full list of the denim brands we have in stock today:
A.P.C.
Earnest Sewn
Corpus
Crate
Kasil
RVCA
Modern Amusement

Scott Dierdorf, co-owner of Blackbird, also produces a little film festival with his pals in Seattle called Stockstock. Using stock footage and a little ditty by Sufjan Stevens, here is the film he created with John Harper for the 2005 showing at the Seattle Art Museum. Click here to enjoy.
Note: Sonic Boom sells Sufjan Stevens "Illinoise" if you don't own it already.

So G-Star called me today. [This is true story.] They said that after their visit to Blackbird a few weeks ago, they decided that Seattle can handle another store selling G-Star and since Blackbird is *so* cool and we are far from an Ian store or Zebra Club location, they didn't see any conflict of interest (they also mentioned Nordstrom).
We love our customers at Blackbird and we get a lot of requests for G-Star so I am going to let you guys help me figure this one out. Here it is... Should Blackbird carry G-Star starting in November 2005? Use the comments space to voice your opinion or vote. This is an open forum.
Biggest thanks,
Nicole

Summer will be our last season carrying EVER at Blackbird. This was a difficult decision for me to make since we've had it in the store since we opened our doors in November of 2004 and becuase we absolutely have loved the garments they created. After 8 full seasons selling their INCREDIBLE hoodies, jackets, pants, sweaters and tees it is time to move on to other brands. We still love EVER and it will be missed.
Joe Dries and Scott Dierdorf, please forgive me. :)
In preperation for the the last shipments, ALL remaining EVER merchandise will be marked down 50% from the original retail price starting the morning of Saturday, April 7th and will remain marked down until all pieces are gone.
Hoodies $76
Logo tees $28
Hanoi Pant $79
Munich Jacket $199
Surplus Pant $70
There's nothing like going out to a movie and seeing a guy standing next to me in line wearing an EVER jacket. I'm always tempted to say something but usually the rush I get holds me back. The thought that this fella looks so cool yet still like he's from Seattle and that Blackbird helped make that happen is what keeps me going. Seattle still needs better menswear options and Blackbirds plans to keep providing.
Everyone deserves at least 10 pieces of EVER in their wardrobe.

We've just received our best Trovata shipment yet! Here are some photos and descriptions to help you shop.

Argon Blazer - Last season (Fall) our Trovata blazers were nearly sold out in a week. Don't let this one pass you by. Thin brown and white ticking stripes in 100% cotton. The back has a half belt sewn in (not a real belt but a 40's Adventurer-style detail) and is double vented with black and white taping detail. The cut is fitted but not tight. $299
Explorer Hoody - Zip or pull-over $110
Guide Tank - A classic men's summer tank in muddy yellow, red and brown $62
Patron Oxford - Trovata's classic hidden button-down, straight collar oxford in the best orange color you've ever seen. It's really more pink than orange...or orange than pink. $119
Romani Twill Shorts - Military grey or tan 100% cotton twill. These shorts are the same cut as Trovata's classic twill trousers that you bought from us last season, only shorts; think 5-pocket jean fit. This season the details have been updated with black and white taping one of the back pockets and the label is in black and white ticking material. $118
Excavator Henley - A new color. White with muddy yellow, turquise and dark blue stripes (see this week's Seattle Weekly Fashion Issue). $86
Sediment Woven - The picture doesn't look like much but trust us. We have two colors: black on white micro-dot pattern (the BEST!) or light blue w/dark blue, medium blue, caramel and white stripes. The shirt is a straight collar with a patch pocket and French cuffs. As always, Trovata has left a little note inside the cuff for when you are bored at your next corporate meeting. $143
Oasis Woven - A short, roll sleeved shirt in two color ways: muddy yellow with micro-polka-dots or caramel brown on off white ticking stripes $113
Farran Pant - Black and white skinny stripes on 100% cotton (summer weight). These are like seersucker without the sucker. Check out the extra-cool black and white taping on the back pocket. These will be your favorite pants this summer. Roll them up and jump onto your slip-n-slide. $162
