"During a trip to spend Christmas with my family in December of 2001, I shot a few photographs in the living room of the house where my beloved Grandfather Willie lived. Since my Grandmother's death in 1978, the home they had shared remained virtually unchanged. When I got back to Seattle and developed the film, I was immmediately struck by the haunting, strangely beautiful quality of this environment in stasis. I knew I had to return to document this fragile world that had not been touched in 25 years. I shared with my mother my desire to photograph the whole house and that I would soon be home, but before I could make the trip Willie sadly fell ill. Willie was placed in an assisted-living facility and my race to preserve the house on film becam even more urgent. "

Heather on Vacation - Welcome Brandee!
Sometimes people go on vacation and next week our Store Manager Heather will be one of those people. Luckily she is going somewhere cool - BARCELONA!!! She will be gone from Tuesday, April 25th to May 4th.

Our vendors sometimes send garments on plastic hangers and over time we have collected an army of these little guys. Next time you are in shopping, ask us if we have any hangers available and we'll let you take as many as you need for free.
Fashion Show for Charity
Blackbird will be participating in a charity fashion show Thursday, May 11th at Premier to support Northwest Hope & Healing. This is the event's 4th year and this is the first year featuring men's styles. We'll be showing 8 complete looks along with other men's styles from other stores. Swedish Invasion
Acne Jeans and Tretorn (shoes) coming soon to a Blackbird near you! Both brands are classic fashion staples in Sweden and are getting a lot of attention in the US these days. Pretty much anything from Sweden is stylish right now...Including BALLARD!!! We expect to start receiving shipments some time after May 1st but will let you all know as soon as they arrive.
Acne Jeans (yes...like pimples), has been around for less than a decade but is considered the masters of the perfect 5-pocket jean - the Mic. All other jeans are based on the Mic with only minor tweaks. For example, The Max is the same jean except with a slim ankle, and the Mod has a higher waist (to be worn slouchy not high) and a slim ankle. Here are some photos. Enjoy!

United Kingdom of Luke (a.k.a. *Luke*) is a brand new line for Blackbird and this is our first shipment. The company has been around since 1977 and is based in the UK. The cut is trim but the sizing is a little large so down to a medium if you normally wear a large. Best of all, the SLEEVES ARE LONG!!! We have pull-over sweaters in crew and V-neck, old man cardigans, a hooded windbreaker and a cotton jacket.

Blackbird Co-Owner's Little Movie Including a Sufjan Stevens Ditty
Scott Dierdorf, co-owner of Blackbird, also produces a little film festival with his pals in Seattle called Stockstock. Using stock footage and a little ditty by Sufjan Stevens, here is the film he created with John Harper for the 2005 showing at the Seattle Art Museum. Click here to enjoy.

G-Star Called
So G-Star called me today. [This is true story.] They said that after their visit to Blackbird a few weeks ago, they decided that Seattle can handle another store selling G-Star and since Blackbird is *so* cool and we are far from an Ian store or Zebra Club location, they didn't see any conflict of interest (they also mentioned Nordstrom).
We love our customers at Blackbird and we get a lot of requests for G-Star so I am going to let you guys help me figure this one out. Here it is... Should Blackbird carry G-Star starting in November 2005? Use the comments space to voice your opinion or vote. This is an open forum.

EVER Clearance
Summer will be our last season carrying EVER at Blackbird. This was a difficult decision for me to make since we've had it in the store since we opened our doors in November of 2004 and becuase we absolutely have loved the garments they created. After 8 full seasons selling their INCREDIBLE hoodies, jackets, pants, sweaters and tees it is time to move on to other brands. We still love EVER and it will be missed.

There's nothing like going out to a movie and seeing a guy standing next to me in line wearing an EVER jacket. I'm always tempted to say something but usually the rush I get holds me back. The thought that this fella looks so cool yet still like he's from Seattle and that Blackbird helped make that happen is what keeps me going. Seattle still needs better menswear options and Blackbirds plans to keep providing.
Everyone deserves at least 10 pieces of EVER in their wardrobe.

Berber Polo - Short sleeve, green, cream, brown and yellow bold stripes $80
Argon Blazer - Last season (Fall) our Trovata blazers were nearly sold out in a week. Don't let this one pass you by. Thin brown and white ticking stripes in 100% cotton. The back has a half belt sewn in (not a real belt but a 40's Adventurer-style detail) and is double vented with black and white taping detail. The cut is fitted but not tight. $299

Guide Tank - A classic men's summer tank in muddy yellow, red and brown $62
Patron Oxford - Trovata's classic hidden button-down, straight collar oxford in the best orange color you've ever seen. It's really more pink than orange...or orange than pink. $119
