Yesterday arrived the next step of our Nom de Guerre collection. All items were made in Japan of very high quality materials.
We're still expecting another shipment from them but here is what we have so far.
Black cardigan with patches on the elbows ($319).
Black hoodie (this thing is really thick and comfortable) ($382).
Grey wool M65 ($618).
Black waxed cotton raincoat ($680).

Heavy and long black belted shawl collar coat ($898).

Three styles of scarves (one is not pictured.) The black ($218) is a beautiful perforated looking knit. The blue plaid woven cotton has a permanent crinkle ($158). The one not shown is just like the blue scarf only green and about the size of a small blanket ($238); it can be worn in a pretty endless amount of configurations.
Raw selvage jeans ($304). Somewhat slim but with a more vintage cut. Higher rise than most cuts being put out nowadays, approximately 20cm (across) hem, back pocket rivets, coin pocket selvage, etc. These are really great. In this picture they are being worn with APC crepe sole boots ($320).
With our next shipment we are expecting more styles of jeans, Buzz Rickson MA-1s, and more.

Last week we received our latest shipment from APC. Included with this shipment were black trenchcoats, black cotton/cashmere blend V-neck sweater and sweater vests, grey wool (with cotton lining) zip/button sweaters, matching black wool pant/jackets, taupe M65s (as well as a restock of our black ones.), black poplin-collar shirts, and candles.
We were all very excited about all of it and to show our excitement we thought we would share some pictures.
APC zip/button sweater worn with an APC button-up underneath. ($334)
APC M65 ($320) with an APC scarf ($110).
The candles which are currently stinking up our store in the absolute best way possible come in the following scents: jasmin, tumbac, orange blossom, and fig. Lovely, lovely. ($35)
APC wool jacket ($445), wool pants ($195), and leather boots ($390).

These are not a new arrival but we still have two styles of APC boots available. The first picture is a slimmer model with leather sole and zipper in the back. The second is a softer leather with crepe sole and side zipper ($320).

Nom de Guerre was featured in Glenn O'Brian's Style (A Web Log) on Men.Style.Com this past Friday. The article mentions Blackbird as one the nine locations in the world to purchase Nom de Guerre clothing including their boutique.
Our first full shipment of the Nom de Guerre collection will start arriving in the store early next month and will consist of authentic Buzz Rickson M-1 jackets with the Nom de Guerre tree logo printed on the inside, the Nom de Guerre signature hoodies, leather goods, scarves, sweaters and more items all made in Japan.
Below is a photo from the article containing Nom de Guerre's selection of Common Projects brand sneakers. They are high quality and simply designed with tone-on-tone laces and just a hit of detail with the gold stamped code on the back heel. Blackbird will start carrying Common Projects in the Spring.

"The Wellington boot, also known as a welly, a wellie, a gumboot or a rubber boot, is a type of boot based upon Hessian boots worn and popularized by Arthur Wellesley, 1st Duke of Wellington and fashionable among the British aristocracy in the early 19th century." -Wikipedia.com
Blackbird has received our shipment of Wellington boots from Swedish shoemaker Tretorn just in time for the Seattle rain. Think chunky knit sweaters with dark denim or cords and a pair of these boots on a foggy Ballard morning. We have two versions:
The Setter Nordic in black with a tan sole ($150)
The Thule Mid in dark brown with a tan sole ($140)
The Sartorialist seems to think rubber boots make for a good look this season. The other day he posted a picture of this chap and said, "Two Of My Favorite Looks From New York Fashion Week" (other photo not shown).
To me something isn't quite right. Maybe it's that the color of his boots are too light for his trench? Sart seems to think that the boots are Ralph Lauren which destroys the idea that maybe they are $13.99 rubber boots from a plumbing supply company in Yonkers. I'd like to see a khaki trench or darker boots to make sense of this outfit in an urban environment. Nevertheless, I commend the effort and love that people are catching on.

The Trovata website has been updated to include a clever and expensive looking comic book story version of this season's story. If you are not familiar with Trovata, you should know that each season the creators concoct a fictitious story that acts as inspiration for the garments they will design.
What I always find terribly funny is when a customer looks at the clothes and says, "this reminds me of those 60's alpine ski murder mystery movies. You know... like that one with the Pink Panther?! I just need a pipe and a bee-hived British model on my arm."
Check it out!

One my daily cruise of The Sartorialist I found this picture. He reminds me of the many Blackbird customers I saw this weekend in the shop. He has a simple casual masculine look with thoughtful subtle accessories. Not too fashion and not too neglected. A perfect balance for Seattle... and Paris.

ProductDose.com beat me to the punch with it's review of the new Corpus cardi ($175) so I'm going to steal from them.
"When I was in 10th, I asked my step-mother to buy me a $75 cardigan, which she did. My girlfriend at the time proceeded to make fun of me for a week for having been involved in spending so much on an item that didn't look much different than the $4 thrift store versions she wore. Whatever lesson I learned is now long lost, as the days of the decent $4 thrift store sweater are largely gone. We've now found ourselves at time when a $175 cardigan is not uncommon. Of course, cardigan styling has come a long way, as displayed by this Corpus Mint Cardigan. The quirky mint/charcoal color mix is complemented by unique details like buttons at the cuffs, exterior (hoody-like) front pockets, a slim cut, five buttons up the front, and 100% wool. Expensive? Sure. But I never saw anything like this when I was in high school.
By: cory o'malley"
The color is actually mint and olive which in combination tones down the pastel and creates the magic color that can be worn any season. In addition to this combination we have red and charcoal. Sizes XS (for the ladies) to XL.
The Corpus guys are wearing this sweater with their skinny Stick suspender jean in black or the Tal-S selvedge suspender jean in indigo, slouchy around the ankles with slim slip-on canvas shoes or Capezio style shoes.
