BLACKBIRD OUTFITS: DRESS LIKE TOM WAITS

Tom Waits is a living legend. His incredibly prolific career has not only yielded numerous must have albums (take your pick) and suprise collaborations (Keith Richards on Rain Dogs and his most recent, Bad As Me) but also hit cover versions (Rod Stewart doing "Downtown Train", Bruce Springsteen doing "Jersey Girl" and, um, Scarlett Johannson doing an entire cover album of his songs). Blackbird Vintage - Harley Davidson Engineer Boots

As some of you may know, Ari Seth Cohen, our former Store Manager, moved to New York a few years ago to pursue bigger things. Since arriving, Ari has gone on to create the completely amazing Advanced Style blog which draws our attention to our friends over 50 and their experienced fashion sense. Yesterday, Ari and his stylish ladies were featured on the Today Show. And here's a few words about our birthday boys:

Mozart learned voraciously from others, and developed a brilliance and maturity of style that encompassed the light and graceful along with the dark and passionate. His influence on subsequent Western art music is profound. Beethoven wrote his own early compositions in the shadow of Mozart, and Joseph Haydn wrote that "posterity will not see such a talent again in 100 years."

Pollock's most famous paintings were made during the "drip period" between 1947 and 1950. He rocketed to popular status following an August 8, 1949 four-page spread in Life magazine that asked, "Is he the greatest living painter in the United States?" At the peak of his fame, Pollock abruptly abandoned the drip style.

He often contributed to the scripts of his films, under unusual pseudonyms such as "Otis Criblecoblis", which contains an embedded homophone for "scribble"; and "Mahatma Kane Jeeves", a play on mahatma and on a phrase an aristocrat might use when about to leave the house: "My hat, my cane, Jeeves." In other features he is reported to have written or improvised more or less all of his own dialogue and material, leaving story structure to other writers.
