Born near Philadelphia in 1900, Alice Neel was the foremost American portraitist and one of the most engaging painters of her times. Engaging deep relationships with her subjects of all kinds, Neel evoked a childlike honesty in her work while digging deep into the minds of her canvas embedded works. The balance of color and light in all of her works brought to mind some of the pieces from the Spring and Summer offering at Blackbird. Enjoy.

DETAILS: Distinguished and dashing, APC's costume veste in noir consists of single breasted, two button, canvassed*, wool and mohair blend twill blazer with matching slacks. The jacket hosts to a notched collar with felted underlining, two welt-style hand pockets with flap coverage, two piece pre-curved sleeves for range of motion, and three button functional cuffs. The back hosts to duel, princess seam tailoring and duel vents giving this blazer a well-tailored fit that will flatter most. The torso and sleeves feature cool and comfortable white rayon lining with subtle pinstripes.
The matching pants are flat front slacks with a 1-1/2 inch waistband, a four button fly closure, two slash hand pockets and a right front watch pocket, each leg opening is cuffed and sewn to be tailored to your length and the back has two fitting darts sewn into the waistband and two welt-style rear pockets.
*Traditionally, men's suits were constructed with a layer of horsehair canvas underneath the wool fabric shell allowing it to drape naturally while maintaining a clean appearance and keeps it from sagging or deforming. The canvas is cut to the jackets shape, then the wool is stitched to the canvas. Over time, as you wear the jacket, the canvas conforms to your bodies shape, creating an excellent fit.
