As a change in business plan, Blackbird is closing Birgitta, its women's store immediately. A small selection of women’s brands will be integrated into the main floor at Blackbird and the new store, The Field House.

Almost one year ago Blackbird decided to diversify and broaden its reach in the Seattle retail market. Blackbird had been selling menswear to women and also had a successful ongoing women’s rack in Blackbird. Women’s clothing seemed to be the natural next step. After almost a year, it was realized that the other Blackbird businesses were more successful and took far less effort. Closing Birgitta is not easy but we think you’ll be excited about our new projects to come.

The space where Birgitta was will be converted into a private personal shopping studio, and will potentially be used for shop-in-shop/pop-up-shops.

All of us at Blackbird and Birgitta are so excited to showcase the delicate sculptures of our friend, Suzanne Stefan.

Suzanne is a sculptor and architect who lives and works in Bainbridge Island, Washington. She received a Bachelor of Architecture from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University and attended the masters program at L'Accadema di Architettura in Mendrisio, Switzerland. Raised in the United States, India, and Belgium, she has traveled extensively and her visits to remote, austere landscapes in East Africa, Asia, and Europe have been inspirational to her sculptural and architectural work. In 2008, she opened her first solo show at Royal Gallery in Phoenix, Arizona, and most recently, her sculptural work was exhibted in Seattle's International District for the first Annual Art Walk. Current works continue her investigation of folding light and shadow.

BIRGITTA: GRAND OPENING PARTY SPECIAL GUESTS

We're having Aerial Artists at our party!! Really!! Simonne Garrigues and Bruce Magnotti will be performing tonight in the rafters of Blackbird.

Simonne has been studying aerial arts for 4 years and Bruce for 3 years. They perform yearly with the Aerial Army of Love for a benefit for the children who live in the garbage dumps in Guatemala. They also shoot performance and audition video for most of the performers in the Seattle area. Sign up to take lessons at their aerial arts school in West Seattle, Seattle Aerial Arts. I'm signing up tomorrow!!
