Wellies

"The Wellington boot, also known as a welly, a wellie, a gumboot or a rubber boot, is a type of boot based upon Hessian boots worn and popularized by Arthur Wellesley, 1st Duke of Wellington and fashionable among the British aristocracy in the early 19th century." -Wikipedia.com

Blackbird has received our shipment of Wellington boots from Swedish shoemaker Tretorn just in time for the Seattle rain. Think chunky knit sweaters with dark denim or cords and a pair of these boots on a foggy Ballard morning. We have two versions:

The Setter Nordic in black with a tan sole ($150)

The Thule Mid in dark brown with a tan sole ($140)

The Sartorialist seems to think rubber boots make for a good look this season. The other day he posted a picture of this chap and said, "Two Of My Favorite Looks From New York Fashion Week" (other photo not shown).

To me something isn't quite right. Maybe it's that the color of his boots are too light for his trench? Sart seems to think that the boots are Ralph Lauren which destroys the idea that maybe they are $13.99 rubber boots from a plumbing supply company in Yonkers. I'd like to see a khaki trench or darker boots to make sense of this outfit in an urban environment. Nevertheless, I commend the effort and love that people are catching on.
