SUITS BACK IN THE NFL

One of the great sartorial tragedies of our time is the fact that we have gone from this (Tom Landry), to this (Bill Belichick). Can you imagine Vince Lombardi without his fedora and trench?! Sadly, suits have not been an option for head coaches in the NFL since 1993, when Reebok signed a big-money deal with NFL, prohibiting coaches from wearing anything but Reebok-mandated team apparel.

Fortunately, coaches such as Mike Nolan (recently named one of Esquire's Best Dressed Men in the World, coincidence?) of the 49ers, and Jack Del Rio of the Jaguars, are attempting to stem the tide of ill-fitting sweatshirts and warm-up gear. After petitioning the league, both coaches are slated to wear suits during home games this year. Blackbird applauds the efforts of both these men to bring a little style and civility back to the sidelines.
