Restored archival classics from The Film Foundation screen this weekend.

Seattle, WA - The Seattle International Film Festival, in partnership with Gucci and The Film Foundation, is pleased to present two newly restored classic films, A Woman Under the Influence (1974, directed by John Cassavetes) and Le Amiche (1955, directed by Michelangelo Antonioni). The films are part of Cinema Visionaries, a traveling preservation screening series of films restored by Gucci and The Film Foundation. Both films will screen on June 6, 2009 at SIFF Cinema.

Celebrating a rich history influenced by film, this unique partnership is part of Gucci's ongoing commitment to film preservation and appreciation, through the dedicated work of The Film Foundation and key partners like the Seattle International Film Festival. Cinema Visionaries honors the work of innovative filmmakers who have made a significant contribution to the history of motion pictures, ensuring that great films from the past survive to entertain and inspire future audiences.

"Gucci's long-term commitment to supporting The Film Foundation's efforts to save cinematic treasures with the Cinema Visionaries program is a unique opportunity for us to bring these important films to new audiences that otherwise might never be able to see them on the big screen," says SIFF Artistic Director Carl Spence.

The Film Foundation is a nonprofit organization established in 1990 by Martin Scorsese. The foundation is dedicated to protecting and preserving motion picture history, and provides substantial annual support for preservation and restoration projects at the nation's major film archives. Since its inception, the foundation has been instrumental in raising awareness of the urgent need to preserve films and has helped to save over 525 motion pictures. Joining Scorsese on the board are Woody Allen, Paul Thomas Anderson, Wes Anderson, Francis Ford Coppola, Clint Eastwood, Curtis Hanson, Peter Jackson, Ang Lee, George Lucas, Alexander Payne, Robert Redford and Steven Spielberg. The Film Foundation is aligned with the Directors Guild of America whose President and Secretary-Treasurer serve on the foundation's board.
