Each shirt is hand-dyed by Blackbird staff in the back of The Field House using all natural dyes developed in collaboration with Earthues, a famous colorist and natural dye shop just down the street from us in Ballard. Our approach is back to basics; using only natural, sustainable, and environmentally sound techniques and materials to create these shirts. We love the results!
Right now we are dying the shirts in small batches or "lots" where the formulations and soaking times vary to create absolutely unique results every time. Each lot is numbered (e.g. LOT3) and all shirts in the lot have the same basic color and dye effects. Of course each shirt is one-of-a-kind.
To start, our Blackbird dyers pieced together a palette of moody grays and olives, rich reds, dusty tans and greens that suit our Blackbird point of view. As we learn and discover new dyes and methods, the shirts will change. This is such a fun process for us and we hope you enjoy our creations.
