The Blackbird Apothecary’s been around for about a year and a half now, and it’s undergone all sorts of changes since it’s inauguration. There are, however, a couple of things that’ve managed to hang around for all this time. We’re referring of course to our good friends from both Baxter and Malin + Goetz.

Baxter of California was started in 1965 after Baxter Finley moved to LA and had a tough time finding a functional masculine moisturizer. So he created his own, Super Shape, one of the first lotions created specifically for man. This soon led to a full line of products, giving Baxter a chokehold on the men’s grooming market long before its modern resurgence.

Malin + Goetz, or Matthew Malin and Andrew Goetz, came from mixed backgrounds in cosmetics, grooming, and design when they joined forces to create an easy, natural, and versatile skincare line.
