INTRODUCING - WAITING FOR THE SUN
Blackbird warmly welcome Waiting for the Sun to our ever expanding line of unique and innovative sunglasses. These Natural beauties are just the right amount of interesting texture perfect for amping up your spring and summer look.
“We’re not ecological activists,” says Julien Tual of sustainable-eyewear brand Waiting for the Sun. “Just modern people aware of our need to take care of the world.” A former print designer for Christian Lacroix, Tual—along with codirectors Antoine Mocquard and Alexandre Rabineau—now does his bit by imaginatively hand-carving sunglasses from Australian tea wood and bamboo - all renewable materials that, unlike petrol-based plastic (traditionally used in sunglasses), leave less of a trace on the environment.
The Paris-based trio insist that wasn’t their only priority. “It’s not part of French culture to focus on being organic,” Tual explains. “We use wood because it’s an interesting material . . . it’s natural, light, and changes color with perspiration and sunlight.”
