JULIUS SHULMAN DOC PLAYING THIS SATURDAY AT SIFF CINEMA

We reckon that you should do everything in your power to see this film. It is certain to be a treat for the eyes, and food for the creative mind. It plays tonight at 5pm at the SIFF Film Center, as part of the 2011 Seattle Design Festival.

Narrated by Dustin Hoffman, VISUAL ACOUSTICS celebrates the life and career of Julius Shulman, the world’s preeminent architectural photographer, whose images of Southern California’s modernist movement brought its iconic structures to the attention of the general public. Over his eight-decade career, Shulman captured the work of such luminaries as Frank Lloyd Wright, Richard Neutra, John Lautner, and Frank Gehry. This visually inventive documentary follows the joyful, whip-smart photographer as he revisits some of the structures he immortalized on film (including the subject of his most famous work, Pierre Koenig’s Stahl House), and is both a testament to the evolution of modern architecture and a joyful portrait of a magnetic artist.
