BLACKBIRD LOVES PORTLAND - BRICK AND BLACK

Blackbird has been open in Portland for almost two weeks now and the response has been great! We are so excited to be meeting and hanging out with all the locals. Local cool kids, Brady "Brick" Lange and Lauren Black of the fashion and design blog Brick and Black were some of the first people in the door when we opened that Sunday afternoon and their energy and enthusiasm were just what we all needed after some long days of hard work getting to store open for all of you. BOIS 1920 - CLASSIC 1920

DETAILS: The initial notes of this scent remind me vaguely of Hinoki's crisp cedar note accented by thyme and turpentine, replaced in Classic 1920 by lemon, and basil. This top note, which is exceptionally clean without overbearing on the nose with overwhelming citrus zest, fades majestically into a glorious chypre blend. Haitian Vetiver plays an important role, not to be outdone by the subtle lavender, apricot, and floral bouquet, touched up with pimento and nutmeg. INTRODUCING: BLACKBIRD MENDING KIT

- Did your Mom teach you how to sew?

- Collar missing a button right before you're about to head to work?

Blackbird conjured up the ultimate mending kit containing six ball tipped straight pins for holding fabric together, four small safety pins for emergencies, four size 7 sharp needles for hand sewing buttons and small repairs, one large spool of polyester black thread, one large spool of polyester white thread, and two collar stays. A measuring tape, a chalk square to mark fabric for buttons and seam lines, etc., a seam ripper, small pair of scissors, and small aluminum thread guide. A card containing four buttons with instructions on how to sew on a button all housed in a one quart canning jar. A must have for the discerning gentleman.

We absolutely love Carlos's hands-on DIY approach to his artwork and find it work fit in perfectly with the Obey story. CB I Hate Perfume- Green Briar 1966

Based on the smell of Christopher Brosius's grandfather, particularly the sawmill in which he worked and the stone house in which he lived, CB I Hate Perfume's Green Briar 1966 is far and away the most easily accessible to the Blackbird contingent of boot and moustache-toting Americana enthusiasts from our new throng of CB I hate perfumes. Right out of the gate the smeller is met with a familiar note of dirt, accompanied by green-tinged notes of fresh hay and scattered drops of dew. Recently cut sawdust floats through the air. As we approach the body of the scent, the focus begins to shift away from the environment, and instead more towards the personal details of the man who was Brosius's grandpa: The tobacco smoke billowing from his old-fashioned pipe, his worn leather work gloves coated with resins and stained green from years of use, and the cotton of his garb with the occasional spill of axel grease. The result is a markedly masculine concoction that manages to be fresh and light without sacrificing it's rugged charm.

Wow Portland, what a weekend it was! After months of hard work and some crazy long days we are more than happy to bring to you the biggest project we have been a part of since opening the original Blackbird in Ballard more than 6 years ago. The way we have been loved and embraced by all of you so far is humbling to say the least. Our blood, sweat and tears are in every thing we do and to be able to branch out of Seattle and share it with you is why we get up in the morning. We want to thank all of our wonderful friends in Portland who have lent us a hammer, let us crash at their house, fed us, honked at us as they drove by or "liked" one of our photos on  Facebook, you are all a part of this. 

The store features a carefully picked selection of what you have come to know Blackbird to be. Robert Geller, Blackbird Private Label, Odyn Vovk, Julius, A.P.C, Lad Musician, Yuketan and OBEY are joined by scents from Ulrich Lang and Dyptique along with grooming products from Malin & Goetz. Just like our Ballard store, the Portland location will constantly be updated and added to,showcasing all price points but maintaining our darker point of view.
