iPHOTO DIARY: CFDA GQ PARTY PRESENTATION THING

GQ did a fine job hosting the CFDA Menswear deal this year/season. I must confess that I can't keep it all straight. Some friends were kind enough to invite me to this charming event in New York last month while I was there for Fashion Week. Here are some candid shots from the evening and a little commentary help the story along.

Let's cut to the chase... After making at least 4 loops around that godforsaken 102 degree room, my pal Dez and I huddled by the AC unit and suicide proof, 4" cracked window for half of the night. Here was our view of the barmaids, models and sweaty fashion biz folks. Free cold beer!

People like these make industry events fun! Here are Kirk and Chris Bray from Billykirk. Real people that work real hard in this business are rare. In addition, these two are a hoot! Be sure to ask them about their uncle whats-his-name from the South with the taxidermy chimpanzee on his porch (or something like that).

L to R: Halmos & Shipley

Geller!!!

Being a model at one of these things must suck. Remember, it was hot on the ground and they were standing above us, wearing layers of winter clothing. We were sweaty and they were dying as slow death.

Geller stole the show in my opinion.

The one magic moment we didn't get a picture of was my friend Dez standing two inches away from Mr. Tommy Hilfiger.

SHIPLEY & HALMOS on IN THE CLOSET (lamest name ever)

S&H are clearly as charming as always, but what is up with the forced Olympics fashion theme of this interview? Does listening in on the conversations of these GQ guys really get me excited about menswear? Not really. Give me some real insights. Give me the scoop. At least Sam and Jeff hold it together.

Also... did you catch the strange camera shots of Sam's middle section. What's going on?

Shipley & Halmos garments are en route. Expect to see the same slim suits and dress shirts of last season, plus lots of great new knits and denim goods.

SHIPLEY & HALMOS

Designer duo Sam Shipley and Jeff Halmos (of Shipley & Halmos, carried at Blackbird) popped up on Division Street, giving a quick interview and some great photos in their studio. Check out the interview, "Division Street Interview: Shipley & Halmos", and the photos below:

SHIPLEY & HALMOS AWARD

Congratulations are due: the new clothing line Shipley & Halmos is receiving its first award after only one season. The National Arts Club, an association for American fine arts, is officially bestowing its premier young designer award to designers Sam Shipley and Jeff Halmos on May 20.

Shipley & Halmos was the second brand to be featured on Refinery29's new season of The Countdown, which began just last week. Shipley & Halmos's spring/summer 2008 collection is due to ship within the next month.

Later this month, the Countdown will also be featuring Band of Outsiders.

"Back for its second season, Refinery29's original video series The Countdown is heading back behind the scenes and into the studios of five of fashion's most talked about indie designers to reveal the true stories, stress, and high-style it takes to get to New York Fashion Week."
