BLACKBIRD BURGLAR SERIES: COLTON HARRIS MOORE CREW NECK SWEATSHRT

The second burglar of interest in our series, we bring to you Colton Harris-Moore, a local Seattle area thief and survivalist.

Colton A. "Colt" Harris-Moore (born March 22, 1991) is a former fugitive from Camano Island, Washington. He is suspected in the theft of at least five small aircraft, a boat and two cars, and in the burglaries of at least 100 private residences in various locations around the Pacific Northwest of the United States and Canada. He fled to the Bahamas on July 4, 2010, allegedly in a plane stolen from Indiana. He was indicted on July 6 by a U.S. Federal Court in Seattle, Washington on charges of transporting another stolen aircraft in that state. Harris-Moore was arrested in Harbour Island, Bahamas on July 11, after police shot out the engine of the boat in which he was attempting to flee. Two days later, he was deported from Nassau, Bahamas to Miami, Florida and transferred on July 21 to SeaTac, Washington where he is awaiting trial.
He became known as the "Barefoot Bandit" or "Barefoot Burglar" by reportedly committing some of his crimes barefoot, once leaving behind a chalk footprint. Despite the widely-reported nicknames, officials said that he more often wore shoes.

BLACKIRD BURGLAR SERIES: CHARLES FREDRICK PEACE CREW NECK SWEATSHIRT

Our obsession with darkness and days of old naturally lead our latest Blackbird series to a new level.  Burglars.  Here is our first man of mystery and doom, Charles Frederick Peace.
“Charles Frederick Peace Wanted for Murder on the night of the 29th inst. He is thin and slightly built, from fifty-five to sixty years of age. Five feet four inches or five feet high; grey (nearly white) hair, beard and whiskers. He lacks use of three fingers of left hand, walks with his legs rather wide apart, speaks some-what peculiarly as though his tongue were too large for his mouth, and is a great boaster. He is a picture-frame maker. He occasionally cleans and repairs clocks and watches and sometimes deals in oleographs, engravings and pictures. He has been in penal servitude for burglary in Manchester. He has lived in Manchester, Salford, and Liverpool and Hull.” – Wanted Poster 1871

In the year Eighteen Hundred and Fifty Two there lived a gentleman by the name of Peace. He was a man of various talents which he used to entertain the townspeople with by day and steal from them by night. Peace was meticulous and a master of disguise, able to distort his facial features; even going so far as to darken his skin tone with walnut oil.
His obsessions extended beyond material and wealth. He was particularly fond of music and one Mrs. Dayson his married neighbor. The two would eventually lead to his demise.  The relationship was unclear but quickly turned violent as Mr. Dayson warned Peace to leave his wife be. Peace responded with a gunshot to the head. Cries of murder flooded the street as Charles disappeared into the night.

With morning came a new persona, a wealthy chap with an ever growing musical instrument collection and a new wife. As the town settled, a string of burglaries began. Consistent and undetectable he believed himself invisible, but ironically the same could not be said about a lantern he carried one night while he was out robbing.  The reflection captured the eyes of a pair of constables who quickly ran to investigate.  Charles attempted escape but was tackled and taken into custody.  Charles Frederick Peace was hung for his musical life of crime.

WHAT I WANT TO WEAR TODAY: COZY, DARK & WARM

SÉANCE: ALBERT VON KELLER AND THE OCCULT + IMPLIED VIOLENCE: YES AND MORE AND YES AND YES AND WHY

Last Tuesday a small group of Blackbird people headed to the Frye Art Museum in Seattle for their Tea and Tour event which featured the works of Albert von Keller, a Swiss-born painter with an mysterious obsession for the other side of the spiritual world, and Implied Violence, an artist group that performs live works where people are drugged, leached, bound and taken beyond reality.

For $5 we were treated an informative two-hour guided walking tour followed by tea, cookies and a chat with the show's curator.  Of course, we stood out in the crowd with our dressed in black with shaved heads kind of mystery to contrast the sweater-set wearing silver haired elder art ladies and a single dirty old man who scared and entertained us with his muffled commentary on every nude painting in the show.

We were most impressed when the show's curator came out to tell us more about Implied Violence, and proceeded to enchant us with her dark curly locks and Rick Owens ensemble while detailing the use of leaches, bondage and aether in their performances.

Let's not forget the art.  Both shows were outstanding with their common theme of innocence and experimentation with darkness, human power and the unknown.  After the tea, we headed back to the galleries to look deeper into the swirling brushstrokes that seem to tell us that something from beyond was present in the room.  We could have stayed all day.

The Fry Art Museum is free and open every day except Monday.

GO PRO: ROMERO DENIM PANT II

LEO ROMERO
RVCA SKATE TEAM
PRO RIDER

For the past 3 years, the RVCA Romero has been Blackbird's best selling, go to jean for pretty much everyone that walks in our door.  This season RVCA has streamlined the denim they are using across all fits they carry (Spanky, Chevy and Harmony) so that all jeans come in the same denims which has allowed them to use an even higher quality denim.  Smart!  They have also reworked the Romero Denim Pant to be a little more slim.  It looks really good.

LEO ROMERO BIO (stolen from somewhere)
From the run-down shacks and garbage-strewn vacant lots of Fontucky (also known as Fontana), California, comes the young whippersnapper Leo Romero. Plenty of filmers and fellow woodpushers alike admire Leo for his totally killer style, not to mention his uncanny ability to stomp the biggest sledghammers first try. Yep, he's a well-known handrail / stairs abuser who can, unbeknownst to many, punish lots of other terrain equally well. For example, Leo loves tranny, regularly slashing bowls to pieces.

Leo first started skating around 1997 thanks to his friends, the Death Junkies. Early influences included Jamie Thomas and Andrew Reynolds, which perhaps explains Leo's balls-out approach to shred sledding today. Just a few years back, Leo had to ask permission to spend the night at a friend's house. Now, he's flown the coop to tour the world on his own, regularly skating with the top pros he grew up influenced by.Boyeee comin' up quick!

Always down for business, it's not uncommon for Leo to call up filmers and photographers as often as friends to go skating. For proof of his dedicated work ethic, scope Leo's parts in Emerica's This is Skateboarding, TransWorld's First Love and Foundation's That's Life videos, not to mention his massive 16-page amateur interview in Thrasher, plus a great big pile of other covey.

These days, Leo can usually be found skating in Orange County, California and the Inland Empire, and he recently bought a house in Long Beach, where he rents rooms to filmer Cricket and The Skateboard Mag photographer Adam Conway. Always joking, super funny, and making the most hilarious faces, this kid is totally easy to get along with. As Thrasher put it, "Everybody loves Leo." That pretty much wraps it up for our man. And always remember: take the "r" out of his last name and what do you have? That's right, ladies...Romeo.
